Below you'll find the official rules and scoring for all contests on the SPAR platform.
The contest operates by allowing the user to log in each day and pick (1) team in any of the games that are on the slate for the day (per sport) they think will win (with the spread if applicable). If they are correct, they receive a point. If they are incorrect, their score resets and goes back to zero.
If there are no games available at all that day for the sport, or if the game they chose was postponed, suspended, cancelled, or removed for any reason, the score does not count, and they do not get reset back to zero. Other restrictions apply.
Should a user reach an admin pre-set number of consecutive picks (such as 9, 13, 17, 21, or 25), they will earn the prize designated by the admin for their accomplishment. No buy-in/deposit/purchase necessary; they simply must use the app and participate in the contest.
Picking
A user is able to see all the games and their respective point-spreads associated with the contest across all sports. They see this every single day.
This operates just like “Spar private H2H contests” where the user needs to pick a team and the associated point spread.
- A user must make (1) pick and they’re locked to only (1) pick per day
- Wrong pick = resets them back to zero
- Missed or no pick = no action taken, streak remains as-is
Editing Picks
Editing picks can be done any time up until each specific sporting event locks which is (1 hour) before the specified start-time. Once a game begins, it is locked from being selected. Therefore, if a user doesn’t get a chance to make a pick earlier in the day but logs on later, they could still potentially keep their streak going by picking a sporting event that hasn’t started.
Earning Points
A user earns 1 point for every correct pick. Since they can only pick (1) team per day, it is just a maximum of (1) point per day. This is “point” is part of a streak that adds to their overall total.
Current Streak
The whole purpose of this gameplay is to get consecutive picks right. Their current streak simply represents the # of days in a row they have gotten a correct pick. An incorrect pick sets user back to zero (starting the process over).
Fluctuating Point Spread Data
Streak contests and fluctuating spread data operates for contests just like private spar leagues.
- The user’s selection is kept (though the spread may be changing)
- For scoring, we use the final spread at the lock-time of the event (1 hour before it starts)
For example: a user may pick NEP @ BUF -5 early in the week, but on Sunday at 12:00PM (1 hour before it starts) the spread may be NEP @ BUF -3. The user’s pick remained BUF unless they changed it, but the win/loss (right or wrong) will be based on BUF -3 since that was the final one before the contest locked.
Winning Prizes
Prizes are based on hitting the milestones as set by the admin in each contest.
Prizes can continue to be earned as the user records more correct points in their streak. This methodology continues on and on and on. When they reach the highest milestone, they just keep going. There is no resetting once you reach the highest prize.
The “Spar Race” contest also never ends; users can join even after the date the contest starts – until it concludes, as determined by the admin. The contest operates by allowing a user to log in each day and pick (3) teams in any of the games that are on the slate for the day (across all sports – with all sports grouped together) that they think will when (with the spread if applicable).
The ultimate race is all about reaching a total of (100) correct picks (or whatever value is set by the admin). Making an incorrect pick does not reset the user’s score like the streak survivor, rather the user just earns nothing. Correct picks earn the user a point.
This contest is a competition between all users so there is essentially a live scoring / ranks display so users can see where they are positioned versus others in reaching whatever value is set. The admin will determine how many wins, how many winners, (not just the 1st to finish) and when the contest will conclude when creating it via the site.
Picking
A user is able to see all the games and their respective point-spreads associated with the contest across all sports. They see this every single day. This operates just like “Spar private H2H contests” where the user needs to pick a team and the associated point spread.
- A user is limited to making (3) picks maximum
- Not making picks = no possibility to get points (hurting yourself but acceptable)
Editing Picks
Editing picks can be done any time up until each specific sporting event locks which is (1 hour) before the specified start-time. Once a game begins, it is locked from being selected. Therefore, this operates exactly as described above for “STREAK” contests.
Earning Points
A user earns 1 point for every correct pick. Since they can only pick (3) teams per day, it is just a maximum of (3) points per day. These “points” add to their overall total. Incorrect picks or missed picks are simply missed opportunities in the race.
Fluctuating Point Spread Data
Race contests and fluctuating spread data operates for contests just like private spar leagues.
Winners are determined when the 1st place finisher reaches the threshold number set by the admin.
In some cases, there may be additional winners as well for runner-up prizes.
Tiebreaking Procedures
Since it is possible for more than 1 user to be tied going into the final day and simultaneously reach the grand prize race number (such as 100), we will simply show each user as winning the prize.
For example:
USER A RANK 1 100 Points $500 Amazon Gift Card
USER B RANK 1 100 Points $500 Amazon Gift Card
USER C RANK 2 98 Points SPAR T-Shirt
The H2H daily contest style allows you to create a private matchup (1v1) against a friend. Simply create a contest, pick the date for it to run (same day as the games themselves, or the following day), then invite a user. Once you've created the contest you can make your picks. When the opponent you've invited joins, they too can make their picks. Whoever gets the most picks ATS wins. It's that simple.
Note the following:
Games that end up postponed are simply forfeited. No race, streak, or league-associated correct pick win can be associated. This is the case for all users in all gameplay formats.
Tickets are a separate currency on the platform that are earned for making race picks and also awarded when making correct race picks. Tickets are used for entering certain premium contests and can also be redeemed to unlock leaderboard data to view picks by top handicap pickers on the platform. Note that we do not share data on when someone's last picks were. Therefore, we suggest you always research to see who is active in current races before unlocking leaderboard data.
